Tower

Holds the whole turbine high above the ground, where wind is stronger.

How it connects

The tower is anchored to the ground and supports the nacelle housing at the top.

Hub

Bolts the three blades together so they turn as one unit.

The hub mounts on the main shaft and holds all three blades.

Carries the hub's slow rotation into the nacelle.

The main shaft connects the hub to the gearbox (or straight to the generator on a direct-drive turbine).

Speeds up the shaft's slow turning for the generator — not every turbine has one.

How it connects

The gearbox sits between the main shaft and the generator. Some modern turbines skip it and use a direct-drive generator instead.

The generator connects to the gearbox (or main shaft) on one side and the power cables on the other.
